COMMUNITY

Settled in 1644, Longmeadow is a residential community of 15,395 located in southwestern Massachusetts (91 miles from Boston), governed by a Town Charter with a Town Manager form of Government and an open town meeting. A seven-member school committee has the responsibility for the town's six schools and 3,074 students. The system has three elementary schools, two middle schools and one high school.

Longmeadow High School is located on Grassy Gutter Road in Longmeadow, Massachusetts, United States. The high school was founded in 1956 and enrolls approximately 987 students. The school's mascot is a Lancer and the school colors are black and white.

Philosophically committed to educational equity, Longmeadow has hosted the Metropolitan Council for Educational Opportunities (METCO) programs since 1968.

ACCREDITATION

Longmeadow High School is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). NEASC is a non-governmental, nationally recognized organization whose affiliated institutions include elementary schools through collegiate institutions offering post-graduate instruction.

Accreditation of public secondary schools by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges indicates that the educational institution has conducted a self-evaluation of all its programs and hosted a visiting committee to evaluate goals and the seven Standards for Accreditation of the Commission on Public Secondary Schools.

ACADEMIC PROGRAM

The high school has an enrollment of 959 students in grades 9-12 and a curriculum intensely focused on college preparation supplemented with career and technical education offered through the Lower Pioneer valley Educational Collaborative.

Students are expected to carry six classes plus Physical Education each semester. The core academic subjects are supported by extensive course offerings in art, music and business. Independent Study options are available for students with specialized or advanced content needs. Honors courses are offered in all major areas at every grade level. Advanced Placement classes are offered in 18 areas. Students may take an unlimited number of AP courses. All AP enrolled students are expected to take the exam. Early college options are available for qualified students.

The school is a member of the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, the College Board and the National and New England Association for College Counseling.

CO-CURRICULAR PROGRAM

Longmeadow High School encourages active participation in co-curricular activities. An art, music and theater program, a competitive MIAA athletic program with 45 teams, and over 36 active clubs offer students a wide range of personal, athletic and cultural enrichment opportunities. One student newspaper, a literary magazine, and a yearbook encourage written communication and self expression.
