 - Longmeadow’s Special Education Parent Group (P.L.A.C.E.) wishes to express its sincere appreciation to all the sponsors and attendees of its 3rd Annual March Mingle fundraiser event held on March 4, 2011. The evening was an incredible success thanks to the generosity and time of so many people in the community. Together, we raised more than $20,000 for children in our district with special needs and/or learning differences.

P.L.A.C.E. will use this money to help support critical programs for our children and provide informative workshops
for educators, and the parents of students with developmental and learning differences. In addition, these dollars will help purchase effective teaching and much needed equipment and supplies to help every child learn.

One of the first programs P.L.A.C.E. will implement is a pilot program using Kurzweil 3000 software, a reading,
writing, test-taking, and learning tool that harnesses the power of technology in a way that minimizes the barriers
to learning and makes curriculum accessible for all learners. The leader in assistive technology, text-to-speech and
software literacy solutions, this technology has successfully helped children with learning disabilities, cognitive
delays, and English Language Learners better access the General Ed curriculum. Kurzweil software has also
been successfully used to challenge more academically advanced students and provide them with opportunities to
expand, grow and engage in learning. To learn more about this special pilot program, please feel free to e-mail

As a community we have shown that even in the most trying of times, we can come together and make a difference.
Today more than ever the cliché “it takes a village to raise a child” holds true. In spite of a tough economy
and record deficits in school spending, we stood up as a community this past month and reminded our kids that
regardless of what we face today, they are our future and worthy of our investment.

To everyone that participated, we offer our heartfelt appreciation!

The Parents of P.L.A.C.E.
